Garden season is just around the corner — and starting seeds indoors is one of the best ways to get a head start. Here are a few simple tips to get growing, plus local resources like seed libraries, workshops, and ways to share what you grow this season.

The Kimberley Seed Library is now stocked and ready for the 2026 growing season at the Kimberley Public Library! The Kimberley Seed Library is a simple idea with a big goal: helping more people grow food locally. By providing free donated seeds (and encouraging the sharing of saved or still-viable seeds amongst other gardens/gardeners), the initiative supports more home and community gardening throughout the region. Seedy Saturday brought local gardeners, seed sharing, and growing inspiration to Kimberley, kicking off the 2026 growing season. Hundreds of seed packets went home with community members — with seed libraries, workshops, and growing opportunities continuing throughout the spring.

Approximately 150 community members gathered at the Cranbrook Public Library for the city’s first Seedy Saturday — connecting with fellow gardeners, sharing knowledge, and picking up seeds for the growing season ahead.

From bannock and soup to seed sharing and thoughtful discussion, Sunday’s Tea Creek screening was a gathering rooted in connection. The documentary highlights both the challenges and the promise of Indigenous-led food sovereignty — and reminds us that building resilient local food systems starts close to home.
